Sea trust began primarily as a group of people united in their concern for their local marine environment. We felt that our local knowledge, observations and records gained over the years, could and should be shared with decision makers to help preserve and conserve our marine environment.
As members of our local wildlife trust (Wildlife Trust for South and West Wales) we felt that our objectives were in keeping with the general philosophy of the Wildlife Trust. We approached WTSWW with the objective of forming a marine arm/flipper! and were encouraged to do so by the executive. As such Sea Trust was formed as a constituted body and a section of the Wildlife Trust South and West Wales, in the summer of 2003.
Local involvement in environmental issues should not be confused with the “Not in my back yard” NIMBY-ism of self interest . It should be led by informed and documented facts and figures that would in themselves promote a case for the value of existing local biodiversity its protection.
Therefore the aims of Sea Trust are to promote awareness of the marine environment and its biodiversity amongst the community
To generating a sense of pride, value and ownership/guardianship of the marine biodiversity within the community.
To conduct and encourage local research that will improve the knowledge of local marine biodiversity and where possible involve the community in this research
Submit findings to relevant authorities and enable findings to be fed into local/national/international archives.
Co-operate with like minded groups
To encourage people to join the Wildlife Trust/s
